On a whim, he enters the Great British Bake Off and is swept up in a flurry of curdled custard, shrunken souffle, and under-proved dough. Remus expects to be challenged and to embarrass himself on public television. What he doesn’t account for are the friendships he develops with the other contestants and the deep connection he forms with his teenage crush, Sirius Black: charming ex-boy band member and Bake Off presenter.

    And, of course, Remus remembers. How could he not?

    Something like a love story from the summer of 1978, full of Southern Cuts and Old Style, shitty motel rooms, and questionable decisions. Poor excuse for poetry and late night dancing, a trip to Vegas, and one too many honeymoon suites.

    It’s New York City’s hottest summer on record, and Mike and Will land the perfect post-grad serving job in one of the city’s finest restaurants. They’ve got loads of cash tips, two shiny new college degrees, a cigarette in each hand, and the whole city at their fingertips.

    What starts as a sex joke written on an order ticket evolves into passing dirty notes with no goal other than embarrassing each other in front of customers. The sneakier, the filthier, the more absurd, the better.

    Sometimes I think Chef should put you on the menu. You already look good enough to eat. -M

    The lines of the joke blur when their smoke breaks in the alleyway start heating up into something else entirely.

    Or: Mike and Will can only ask for what they really want when it’s in note form.

    Those protective instincts kick in and Mike can’t help himself as a crazy, irrational idea takes root in his mind.

    An idea that has absolutely nothing to do with seeing Will practically naked in a speedo two nights a week for an entire year. Nope. Definitely not.

    “What if I joined the team with you?” Mike blurts, reddening.

    Or:

    Will and Mike join the Hawkins High swim team in their senior year, spend waaaay too much time together in teeny tiny speedos and one thing leads to another at the pool…
