Summary
Something ticked in Paul’s mind as the familiar words washed through him. When he looked at John, his friend was already looking at him. And suddenly, it all became clear: He remembered having that conversation more than 50 years ago. He remembered it too well.
He had been thinking about it for years, wondering what he should have understood, how he should have reacted. If it was as meaningful as it had felt or if his memory had just romanticized it.
“I don’t think a love like that obeys to any rules,” John went on, unaware of Paul’s agitation. “It’s not something that humans have created, not like a societal thing. It’s deeper than that, and that’s what some people are afraid of I guess, because they can’t control it. Whatever laws they create, they can never control it. A white lad will fall in love with a black girl.” He paused. “A lad with another lad. You know.”

Summer 2019, 77-year-old Paul wakes up feeling surprisingly good. One tiny problem: he is back in December 1965.

Summary
In the year 1403, the Kingdom of Aelston hailed 16 year old Prince Paul McCartney as its golden heir, beloved by the people for his charm, beauty, and gentle nature. Behind the castle’s walls, Paul feels less like a prince and more like a prisoner, suffocated by courtly rituals and a life planned down to the last bow and smile. Now of age to ride beyond the gates, he aches to see the world his crown will one day rule, not through reports and gossip, but with his own eyes. Beyond the castle, in the shadowed alleys of Caerwynd Lower Quarter, 18 year old John Lennon makes his own rules. Born into poverty and hardened by the streets, John has no love for the monarchy that taxes his people and fills the lords’ coffers. He’s a thief and a rebel who sees the crown as a gilded parasite. The prince and the pauper, through odd circumstances, meet face-to-face, with neither expecting what follows: a secret alliance that becomes an unlikely bond of friendship and love. Paul finds in John a guide to the kingdom’s hidden life; John finds in Paul someone who listens, who sees him as more than a thief. But every step beyond the gates is a risk, and if the wrong eyes discover them, it could cost Paul his crown and John his head.

Summary
“How do you get over this,” John asked his friend directly. “How do you go on?”
Paul barked a regretful laugh. “You’re asking me? Clearly, I ain’t over anything, son.”
John reached over, covering his friend’s hand with his own. “You know, Macca, it’s only been what, a year and a little? Maybe it’s okay that you ain’t over her passin’. Pretty sure it’s gonna take longer than that for me.” He moved his hand away. “And you’re wrong. You’re a good friend.” He tamped out his ciggie and looked away. “You’re me best mate, and I thank ya.” And then more softly, “You might be everything, now.”

A quick inventory, a mental patting down of his pockets: one, this is his room. Two, the last time he took lysergic was yesterday, so he's definitely got his head on straight right now. Three, Paul is sitting on the edge of John's bed in the lamplight, looking melancholy and red in the face.
