“Damian could have died tonight,” Jon says. There’s so much swallowed emotion in his voice that his heart has turned hollow. “And I can’t… I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if that happened. If I lost him.”
It feels like staring into an eclipse. There’s more light around the edges, more truth in what he’s not saying than what he is. Jason’s been blinded by empathy too many times to fling himself into it now, floating through life as the ghost of a starry-eyed kid who chased love 'til it set him ablaze.
But a part of him, long-since buried, still reaches toward the sun.
Damian is injured on the field, and Jason is roped into helping him. Somehow, he helps with more than just stitches.

Somehow, despite all logical reasoning, Chisato herself is a mess of contradictions: a gifted assassin who practices pacifism, a girl without a heartbeat that rivals the sun in energy. “Zombies might not exist in the real world, but I do,” Chisato says. “And so do you. But I’d brave a zombie apocalypse in real life if it meant we could be together like this.”
How can Chisato be so blunt and so subtle at the same time? It doesn’t make any sense. “Together at the end of the world?” Takina asks.
“Together at the end of the world,” Chisato says, nodding. “Because it’s not really the end if you’re here with me.”

Simple platitudes have never sat well with Damian, and there’s nothing to be gained by listening to Jon’s empty words. He isn’t in the habit of distrusting Jon, not since they first started working together, and to do so now gives him pause, but…
