alternative title: Jaskier's terrible awful no good very bad hiking trip
After the breakup, Jaskier starts out down the mountain heartbroken and craving a warm bed, ale in which to drown his sorrows and some good company. However, the path they took up the mountain is now impassable, and he soon finds himself hopelessly and utterly lost.
I looked up the dangers of getting lost in the wilderness and this fic is just me making all of them happen to Jaskier. This is a survival guide, in reverse. If you're ever lost in the wilderness, do NONE of these things.

Summary
So I started writing this after CA:TWS, and it was supposed to fit in before CA:CW came out. And then life got in the way and I had to do this annoying thing called University and once I got that done I came back to it and now it's FINALLY finished. So in case anyone's still interested, here's a much-too-long-for-its-own-good and overly angsty story to carry on the feelings after TWS. The end of each chapter has notes with some background and I'm going to try and publish about once a week (fingers crossed). Hope y'all enjoy it!

But he burns with a need to know what it says, and yet there is no one to read it.

Summary
In books and songs, there are always clues that warn the audience that a great tragedy is about to occur. A spot of blood against the clean floor. A broken window, perhaps, or a darkened home. Their hearts would race with anticipation only to gasps as the true horror unfolded.
For Jaskier, the tragedy looked like this:
Two bodies moving awkwardly off the tumbled bedspread.
Dark hair tumbling over shoulders bared by a shirt that was far too large for a woman’s body.
Familiar scars left behind by a life of war joined now by a deep bruise along one collarbone in the shape of a mouth.
Yellow eyes meeting his with agony marring their depths—too much emotion to belong to the man responsible for the way Jaskier’s chest seemed collapse around the shards of his broken heart.

Summary
People didn’t like to touch Geralt unless it was for a purpose. To hand him coin so he could deal with a couple of pesky monsters, to try and best him in a fight, or to lay with him for a night after they’ve been paid. People didn’t like touching Geralt, but Jaskier isn’t people.
Jaskier touches him all the time, when he’s drunk and trying to regain his balance, when he’s tired and needs someone to lean on, when he needs Geralt’s attention he will press his fingertips to Geralt’s elbow. And Geralt? He finds himself fixating on those fingertips.
Yennefer has warned him, told him that his control wasn’t as good as he thought it was, but as Jaskier stares at him, wide eyed and open mouthed Geralt can only hide his head in shame and blame the summer heat.
For all the times Jaskier might have touched him, this is the first time Geralt reciprocated.
