Much has changed in the wake of the bloodbath coronation. Vivi and Jude escaped and settled into a mortal life, Madoc rules Elfhame, Balekin disappeared with the blood crown, and Cardan was spirited away to the Undersea by Nicasia. Ten years pass. Jude blossoms into a competent barista and a semi-normal human. She lives a life of quiet anonymity in the city and brews a damn fine cup of coffee. Just don't get on her bad side, or she'll poison your latte with decaf.
It would be a shame if a certain someone snaked his way into her life again. Pun fully intended. Seriously, he's going to be a big ass snake.

Spice Level: Cinnamon. So mild you might not even notice it.
Enjoy! x

“My dear Mr. Baggins, you cannot possibly imagine I have brought you across the boundaries of the sundered world, bending every law of gods and men, over land and over sea and through the fathomless heights, for your health? Well, I did, of course I did, and I’d do it again. But it was not for your own good only that I brought you here. I have been on this world a very long time, Mr. Baggins, and if there is one thing that I have learned about the Wise and the Great, it’s that they benefit from the company of hobbits, and it’s the wisest and greatest who have most need of them.”

Summary
Sophie had no hope of keeping up with Michael as he chased the star, even with her seven-league boot. He was a flail of limbs and a sploshy sound of madly running feet ahead of her, as the falling star streaked white down the sky. At the speed it had been going it should have hissed into the pools like a doused match long before he reached it, but now it slowed, as though it was moving through honey. She wrestled with her foot, stuck in the seven-league boot, as Michael stalked the star, a paper cutout against its stark white light.
“What is it? What do you want?” she could hear it shrill, bobbling nervously.
“I only want to catch you,” Michael explained. “I won’t hurt you.”
“Get off, you stubborn thing,” Sophie muttered to the boot, and at last wrenched her foot free. She set off stumping toward Michael. The star stared at the boy with frantic, flickering blue eyes.
“I could save you if you’d let me catch you,” Michael told it. His voice grew softer as he edged closer. “I know magic. Please—” he said, and then with one quick, darting motion, he closed his hands around it like a child catching a firefly.(in which michael is told to catch a falling star, and so he does.)
