Summary
The anniversary effect is very real; they’ve all felt it. Especially Will, as another shiver racks through him, stronger than the last. This time, Will takes a step closer to Mike and presses their shoulders together. Whether it’s for body heat or comfort, Mike doesn’t know, but he isn’t going to complain.
If he can’t protect Will from the horrible memories and sleepless nights, he can at least protect him from the autumn breeze. He quickly tugs off his leather jacket and holds it out for Will to take, who looks down at it in surprise.
“What?” he asks, glancing between it and Mike, like he doesn’t know what to do with it.
“You’re cold,” Mike states, no room for question. He knows that Will would lie about it if he could.

“No,” Mike finally speaks. “No. No. No way. Absolutely not. Will is not asking that girl to be his valentine.”
Will actually feels a little relieved. No offense to Lizzie, she was cool, but obviously not his type. Mike knows him, he knows Will isn’t into Lizzie, right?
“And why not?” Max challenges, leaning forward to see past El.
“Because,” Mike pauses as if he were searching for an answer. The party stared at him in anticipation. It’s simple! Just say I don’t want to! Will screams in his head.
“Because I said so,” Mike settles on.
“Wow,” Max responds, incredulously. “I didn’t know you owned Will.”
What?!
“What?!” Mike sputters, mirroring Will’s thoughts. Mike’s face is so red at this point, Will is kind of surprised that the man hasn’t passed out.

Suddenly, Lando felt something slide around his waist, turning around in shock before coming face to face with none other than Carlos. Carlos leaned in a bit, right by Lando’s ear as he whispered “Just go with it” after which he planted a kiss on Lando’s temple.
Lando was shocked for a moment, barely registering the “Who is this babe?” Carlos asked, smiling wide. ‘Babe? wtf does he mean babe? What is he doing?’ Lando thought, before Carlos’ idea sinking in. Weirdly enough, he was okay with it, going along if only for a way to stop talking to Oscar.
“Good” he mumbled, plastering a smile on his face as he looked at Carlos. “And who is this?” Carlos asked, his gaze dropping to Oscar, barely concealing his distaste for the other. Lando hoped Oscar noticed.
“This is Oscar, Carlos, my ex”
“Nice to meet you” Carlos said, holding out his hand which Oscar gladly seemed to shake. “I’m Carlos, Lando’s boyfriend”

He inspected his hand, peeling back the blood-soaked cloth to check the wound. Lando, watching him intently, suddenly seemed to remember something. His breath hitched as he rifled through his jacket pockets. Carlos raised an eyebrow, and then Lando pulled out a small band-aid, holding it out.
Carlos stared at it. It was pink with tiny hearts.
Of course it was.
“For you, obviously, idiot,” Lando said, smiling as if reading Carlos’s thoughts.
Carlos looked at the band-aid and then back at him. This wasn’t going to end well.
This was never going to end well. And one of them—maybe both—was going to get hurt. Carlos, ever selfless despite his flaws, silently wished that if anyone had to suffer, it would be him.
