“Dad?” Tommy called out, slowly backing out of the kitchen toward the hall.
He could hear a faint, frantic thump, thump, thump that he almost mistook as his heart pounding in his ears before realizing it was coming from the door to his right.
The door leading to the basement.
He crept towards the door, heartbeat and mysterious thumping getting louder, echoing inside his skull.
His hand curled around the handle. He forced himself to twist it, fearful of what would jump out the moment the door opened. Agonizingly slow, he inched the door open.
A hand from behind slammed the door shut before he could see inside. A scream tore its way through his throat as he spun around to come face to face with a monster, a murderer, the Queen coming to tell him she didn’t love him.
Phil, it was just Phil.

Summary
Phil was used to being alone. For much of his long, long life, he had traveled the world by himself. But he was never really truly alone. There were still people for him to talk to. Plus that changed when he became a father. There’s no time to be alone when you're watching three gremlins that are constantly getting into trouble.
That’s why being trapped in this unfamiliar world, actually completely alone, not knowing if he’d ever see his family, was a fate he deemed worse than the death that sent him there.
