John stays so still that Edward strains to hear even his throat click, the muteness of his breaths. Wearing, somehow, the most rigid slouch Edward has ever seen. As if waking Neptune would be a death sentence.
Ever since they had first laid camp on this barren island, the wind had battered the sides of the tarp with a personal vendetta. No longer. When John stops, so does the world.

This was a work in progress from a few months back that I just revisited, intended to be formatted only as a oneshot but incidentally split into two parts (because procrastinationnn). Part one can be pretty much read as either platonically or romantically (depending on interpretation), but part two was planned romantically (whether I will still choose to do this idk).
