“No deal. Not today.” Riku yanks his wrist free, voice cold. He pretends not to notice the flicker—the split-second drop of Sion’s smile, the corners of his mouth twitching downward like a glitch in the mask. It’s gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a grin even broader, even sharper than before. Like the rejection didn’t faze him in the slightest.
Riku is sure it didn’t—with a face like that, anyone would be happy to take up Sion’s offer, however shitty it may be.
“Maybe next time then,” Sion says, voice pitched lower now, intimate in a way that prickles along the back of Riku’s neck.

Sion has seen Riku like this more times than he can count, they’ve been in this very position so much that it’s second nature at this point, but Sion is still nervous every time. It’s the anticipation—knowing that Riku is two seconds away from upending Sion as he always does—that makes Sion’s hands shake, in the same way his heart wobbles in his chest. The kiss is sweet. It doesn’t taste like strawberries or candy, it just tastes like Riku, which just so happens to be Sion’s favorite flavor. There’s a little bit of pressure in the way Riku’s lips wedge against his, but there’s no hunger, no fire, no tongues licking at anything they can, taking whatever they’re offered. There’s still Riku’s breath shuttering slightly against Sion’s nose, because it never got any harder for Sion to take his breath away, even after all these years.
