Meryn Baratheon is Borros's niece, a perfect sacrifice to be made up to the Targaryens, in lieu of sending one of his own daughters to wed a kinslayer. Growing up at Storm's End, Meryn is confused and frightened by the Targaryens and their strange customs, and in particular, by the man she is arranged to be married to: Aemond.
However, as Meryn grows closer to Aemond, she starts to have real feelings for him - even as her sister, Ellaria, wed to an Arryn, pleads with her to work as a spy and turncoat at the Red Keep, in order to put Rhaenyra on the throne. Forced to make decisions that will have consequences for her family and for Aemond's, Meryn must choose between her husband or what she believes to be right.
