“Ya, that checks out,” Alex says, cocking an eyebrow. “But I’m looking for something that’s, I dunno, actually fun. You got any recommendations?”
Alex gives him a smile, like this is just the kind of thing you ask a librarian. Henry supposes that actually, it probably is.
“Right, well, I can probably help with that too.” Henry grabs another scrap of paper, scribbles down The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and pushes it over to Alex. “Since you seem like the kind of person who thrives on debauchery and general lawlessness.”

Summary
Inside, it’s framed by deep maroon curtains, held apart and letting light into the space, giving the world a cropped peek at the story within. There is a single lamp in one corner, tall and simple and illuminating the room in a warm, rose-golden glow that Alex can feel despite the chill in the air around him.
And curled into a plush chair by the window, with a book in his hands and his bottom lip caught between his teeth, is a man.
The man is all long limbs folded together, broad shoulders that would probably swallow Alex completely, a thick coral sweater that stretches across his chest, a halo of blonde hair twisting around his ears and sweeping across his forehead.
Alex stands up and watches him turn a page with a furrow in his brow, his focus on reading sharp and intense. It makes Alex forget about the sting in his knees as he wonders what could be twisting his features like that.
Maybe the man is almost to the climax of the story, the big, unexpected turn of events approaching with rapid speed. Maybe he's concerned about the plot, wondering if he should push through something he isn't enjoying.
All Alex knows for sure is that he is fucking beautiful.

“Let’s do this,” he says.
“Let’s,” Alex agrees, pushing down on the handle until the door swings open. “After you, boyfriend.”
This is most definitely not his finest idea. Henry usually practices much better self preservation skills. Much better common sense skills. He steps over the threshold of Alex’s room and it feels like sealing his fate.
They’re doing this for Alex to win over their bosses in a lighthearted game with a harmless lie, but Henry can’t fight off the bitter knowledge that, regardless of how tonight goes, Alex will be fine, but Henry has so much to lose.

Summary
Alex has a plan.
Their suits have been picked out and tailored, their ties coordinating accordingly. Alex has their tickets to get in that he’d printed out on his mom’s fancy color printer tucked safely into his breast pocket. A dinner reservation on the fancier side of town at the family owned Italian place has his last name on it. There’s a tiny nick on the side of his jaw from where he’d cut himself with the razor when his dad helped him shave earlier, but overall, Henry’s definitely seen him much worse.
He slips both hands into his pockets, and one of his sets of knuckles meets paper. He furrows a brow and pulls it out from the bottom, a note in Henry’s sprawling cursive he hadn’t realized was there: Dear Thisbe, I wish there weren’t a wall.
Love, Pyramus.It’s the last time he hears from Henry for the next ten years.

Summary
The entire world has it on video. Alex stumbling forward, straight into Henry’s shoulder, knocking him back into the table and then crumbling to the ground, the cake falling on top of them. Everyone thinks Alex was drunk, or that he hates him, or that he’s immature or unfit for his title, but none of it’s the truth. Everyone’s acting like it’s the end of the world regardless.

“See?” Jaskier teased, “I told you I would kiss it better.” He leaned upwards, pressing another chaste kiss to Geralt’s temple. “One more for good luck.”
Geralt gave him a look that said he found Jaskier unspeakably odd but was too tired to say so. Jaskier (who was used to this look) simply patted his knee, rolled over, and promptly fell asleep.
As he fell asleep, Jaskier failed to notice that the wound seemed to shrink further, quickly reduced to nothing more than a thin white scar. He also failed to see Geralt raise a hand to his head, slowly tracing the scar and staring, dumbfounded, at Jaskier.
The room was quiet for the night, save for a single, soft “Fuck.”
(or: Jaskier has healing powers, and also feelings. Geralt doesn't really understand either.)

Summary
This is how it happens.
Paul, standing in front of him, hand in hand with Leena. That same pitiful look in his eyes as he takes Henry in and shoos his girlfriend away as if he’s being nice. Him apologizing for coming around when everything is “so fresh, I know, I’m sorry,” and touching his arm, ensuring him that “you’ll find someone eventually, I promise.”
It’s that word that grates him. Eventually. The loaded meaning behind it. The implication that Henry might find someone that loves him but it will take time.
Maybe that’s why he blurts it out, without thinking. The words that’ll surely come back to bite him. The words he cannot for the life of him take back, ever.
“Actually, I already have someone.”
Alex and Henry hate each other, but in a moment of panic, Henry tells his ex he's been dating Alex to get him off his back. It works a little too well.

Henry is outed against his will and Mary kicks him out of her house. Alex finds him.

Alex, it reads; simple, to the point. The name tag rests on a red and black flannel, and underneath is a white t-shirt with Georgetown’s name stretched on the front, reminding Henry ever so starkly that he’s thousands of miles away from what he calls home. The flannel stretches over broad shoulders leading up to a strong jaw, all in contrast with the bright, dimpled grin stretched over a beautiful face.
Henry thinks there isn't a place on the world far enough away from his grandmother to escape her clutches - even after transferring to Georgetown. Then, his tour guide extends a helping hand and shows him otherwise.

Today, though, he’s watching in delight as a massive bouquet of roses makes its way through the office, the delivery guy carefully weaving between cubicles as he heads for Nora’s desk. Last week, Nora had revealed to the office one of his embarrassing college hook up stories that involved a thong and sitting cold and shivering in a police station while he waited to be picked up. Today—today he’s sicking Nadine and Alberta on Nora as payback.
His gaze flicks over to Nora where she’s sitting at her desk oblivious to her incoming doom, and then back to the delivery guy. Anticipation, hot and excited, bundles up in Alex’s gut as he clears the final turn of cubicles, and just as Alex is about to grin, wicked and delighted at Nora, the delivery guy makes another turns and comes to a stop at the completely wrong desk.
And then he sets the flowers down and leaves.
