The noise, rather predictably, originated from Holmes’ room. I had assumed it was some experiment of the sort my friend was all too fond of committing his time to, but upon opening the door to his quarters, I was met with a new addition to our suite.
“Graham,” spoke Holmes from his bed, at last making himself known. “He kept trying to burgle our cabinets. I thought to capture him before he succeeded.”

The windows, where they should have been bringing bright light into the dim rooms, were covered with a dark sheet that would on any other day be placed with the rest of Holmes’ bedding. I could hardly see the rest of the room around me, even though it was late morning. The situation being what it was, I felt around for the lamp which I knew resided on his desk. Finding the familiar curves, I lit it and could finally upon my surroundings. To this, there was a quiet but noticeable groan from the direction of the bed. I looked to the source of the noise with my light and found my friend Sherlock Holmes laid about in a most miserable manner.

In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. When the time comes to move out, however, Castiel has to reconcile himself to the fact that men are going to go down and trust that Dean Winchester may well be the only person who can put them back together again.
