“...I’ll not deny I have quite the active imagination,” he says at last, as if the words are something to be confessed. He sees that soft wanting there again. A hunger that hooks something hot and starving in his own gut. “There are quite a number of things I have… imagined. In great detail.”

He turned to Gale after the initial shock faded, holding the collar up for him to inspect.
"This is magic," Astarion pointed out.
"Indeed," said Gale, eyes narrowed at it. "A rather... simple kind, but effective, given the purpose as it were. Rather clever way to call a trained dog home."
"How simple?"
At that, Gale's calculating gaze flicked to Astarion. He smiled very, very slowly.
"A matter of attunement?" Gale surmised. "After that, I could enchant practically anything."
Gale helps Astarion rediscover self-pleasure without (technically) touching him.

Gale takes in the sharp smile, the spark in his eyes. He’s not afraid or outraged. He’s not even particularly unsettled. This is a sort of sport for Astarion.
“But I’ve already had my breakfast today.” Gale cocks his head to the side. “You know, I was up late last night as well. I didn’t hear any rummaging through the camp supplies. But I did hear someone shuffle out of their tent and return an hour later.”
“Mm, how odd,” Astarion hums, playing his fingers against the right side of the blade. “Maybe our gith friend got homesick and wanted to give her family a wave.”
“Careful, Astarion,” Gale drops his voice lower, quieter. “I do not play games I cannot win. And answers do not tend to hide from me for very long. Not if I’m looking for them.”
aka Gale and Astarion both have secrets and are quite bad at keeping them from each other.

Astarion fears that if he still had a functioning heart, it would beat faster, too.
Or, Astarion and Gale attend Lord Gortash's coronation masquerade together. Platonically. As allies. Yes, it's a decadent ball full of masked strangers malevolent and benign; yes, Astarion has spent tendays summoning all of his willpower to resist the urge to make out with Gale in the middle of the Elfsong. Never mind all that. Everything is going to be fine.

Astarion's interest in soft, wealthy, foolish Gale of Waterdeep is entirely practical: make Gale want to keep Astarion safe, no matter what Astarion has to trade away to do it. Gale of Waterdeep's needs are far less carnal than Astarion expects. Somehow that only makes it more complicated.
Or: Astarion underestimates Gale's willingness to let Astarion play pretend at being a vampire lord.
