The situation now was rather like taking a hammer to the puzzle — something he’d suggested once, causing Shen Yi to snatch the little box from his hand and scold him for ten minutes. Just as well that Shen Yi was far away now. The image of his utter horror at the present situation was amusing; Gu Yun fixed his mind on that, and opened the door with smiling confidence.

“We’re heading out,” the nurse calls out, cutting him off as they start to wheel the trolley towards the exit.
“Yeah,” says Mo Ran. “See you,” he says, tearing himself away before he asks him something ridiculous. He doesn’t look back.
(When first year orthopaedics resident Mo Ran sends a cardiology consult for a patient one morning, he isn't expecting it to reach the one person he's been trying all year to forget.)
