They could take their time now, the initial frenzy of needing to be as close to each other finally wearing off. They were there, they were alone. Together. It was luxurious, feeling the weeks stretching ahead of them. Shane wondered what Ilya would do to him with all their new free time.
…He wondered how many packs Ilya would end up smoking.
“Come,” Ilya told him after he decided he’d denied Shane long enough, fingertips stained in nicotine and Shane’s own saliva. Only then did Ilya finally kiss him, when he could tell Shane was close, smirk on his lips and tasting like fucking cigarettes. Shane came from three things: the permission, Ilya stroking his cock with a grip that veered into too tight, and from the taste of smoke on his tongue.
Shane remembered that Ilya smoked and so he bought him an ashtray, because he was a good host. Even though it was a disgusting habit that Shane didn’t want anything to do with. Right?

Fuck, that voice. He couldn’t get it out of his head. Maybe he was imagining it even now. Orgo-induced psychosis.
Shane kept his head down at the table, pretending to be asleep. Or maybe he was pretending to be pretending to be asleep, just to get a rise out of his tablemate. It was hard for him to keep track of his emotions and motivations at times like this.
The man across the table cleared his throat and started speaking with his deep Russian accent. “I am taking a study break too. I keep getting all of the answers right, so I thought I would go on a walk to see if I could find something more interesting to do. Unfortunately, I have run into the most boring person on campus, so maybe I will keep searching.”
Shane chuckled under his breath. He heard the chair move again before he felt hot breath right next to his ear.
“Or maybe you can think of something more fun for our study break, yes?” A pause and a breath. “Study room 1221.”

Medical school AU starting with Ilya and Shane as high schoolers and following them through their rivalry against each other in undergrad, medical school, and residencies. Very slow burn, lots of angst.
