Summary
Neil swallowed tightly. ‘I think I tried to kill myself last night.’
Bee’s pause lasted a second longer than it should’ve, her surprise a heavy thing between them, but then she asked, ‘Can you elaborate on what you mean by “I think”?’
‘I mean that I don’t remember,’ he repeated, articulating each syllable. ‘I don’t remember what caused it. I don’t remember why I felt the urge. I only realised what I was doing after Andrew tackled me and pinned my wrists so I couldn’t grab the knife. I don’t remember, but I have to.’When Neil starts having vivid flashbacks of his time at the Nest during Christmas Break, Andrew urges him to talk to Bee about it. Turns out, his trauma isn't as easily repressed as he thought it would be—and the memories he'd managed to forget will find their way to the surface, whether he wants them to or not.

Summary
Andrew knows that Neil is not soft, or delicate, or fragile in any sense of the word.
And, yet.
(or, five times Andrew is struck by Neil's growth, softness, cuteness, whatever you want to call it)

Summary
Well, their critter was actually a tiny, bony boy, with the most striking eyes Andrew had ever seen. They were blue, not like the ocean, or the sky; but like ice, cracking under the surface with darker blue veins, and open so wide in shock that they looked like pools of infinite depth. Like on his hand, his face and neck had more scattered scales intersected with white scars—one on his left cheek, right under his eye, one crossing the corner of his red, full lips and another peeking from under the collar of his shirt. Contrasting against the vibrant blue of his eyes, the boy had long, curly red-hair that almost gleamed in the sunlight, glued to his humid skin and hiding its full length behind his body. Andrew looked down, and contained a frown as he noticed what the boy wore—a long-sleeved shirt and boxers; and nothing else. Curiously, his feet had the same webbed fingers and little claws as his hands.
“Caught you,” Andrew said.
