Four large paws hit the ground in quick succession as the path turns from paved sidewalk to gravel road. Ryuji’s lungs expand and contract as he times his breathing to his sprint; it’s been a while since he’s ran like this and he had almost forgotten how good it feels. The wind in his fur, the sounds of nature in his ears, gritty dirt between his paw pads…
He really should do this more often. His mom wasn’t like him, but she always told Ryuji that she never wanted him to abandon this part of himself. Ryuji isn’t like his father, he’s never heard the call of the ‘wild’ or whatever mumbo jumbo had his dad running off the way he did, but…
Right now? He feels free.

Ryuji doesn't really get the gimmick, though. Like, what's so hot about a dude dressing up as a chick? Couldn't you just go to a normal bar and see actual girls? It's like -
Ryuji's head one-eighties as someone else stalks past him.
“Okay,” He says softly, trying to stare as discreetly as possible. He covers his open mouth with his glass, eyes wide. “Maybe I get it now.”
Ryuji thinks she's a girl at first glance. She's tall and slender, slinking towards the dance floor, but the way she's illuminated by the dim lights tells Ryuji she's not. Her shoulders are a little too broad, her hips are a touch too narrow.
But still.
Damn.

Summary
He swallows a little as Akira pushes past him in the closet, clad in only a T-shirt and a pair of boxers. His arms are soft, his face has lost a touch of its past sharpness. He's not fat, Ryuji refuses to call him that, he's more just fluffy than anything (just like his hair). Hell, Akira still walks everywhere, he still goes to the gym with him, but… he's definitely different.
And - y’know, Ryuji has weird feelings about that, growing up as a sort-of-chubby kid and getting bullied for it so relentlessly. At first, he expected Akira to be embarrassed or ashamed about it - and maybe he was, a little - but at some point he definitely graduated into just accepting that this is who he is now, which is just… something Ryuji could never fathom for himself.
He also has not a damn clue why it turns him on.

Summary
Ryuji’s two years out of graduating from the Colony Defense Force program when he gets his first real assignment in deep space. It’s not something in his field as a fighter pilot, he’ll basically be acting as a glorified ambulance driver. If he can pull it off, in a year he can put in for a transfer. It might be his only chance. He’s never been good at following the chain of command and he doesn’t shine academically, but he knows ships. He knows how to fly them, build them, repair them. It’s the only reason he was able to get into the program in the first place. It’s the only thing he’s good at.
He’s surprised when someone takes notice, especially when that someone is Commander Akira Kurusu. The man is considered a hero. He was there during the fall of Shido, when the entire planet was wiped off the map. Now he’s a walking poster child for the Alliance of Medical Emergency Services, AMES. He leads a specialized team that travels from planet to planet, offering aid where it's needed. It’s the complete opposite of everything Ryuji was trained to do, but he’s finding it impossible to say no. Especially when he’s going to be serving under such an attractive commander.

Summary
“Check this out, dude!” Ryuji beams, with the force of ten trillion suns, brandishing his phone out to Akira, who squints, trying to read the small-ass text on the screen.
Akira gives in to the distance and stands up, plopping down on the bed, moving Ryuji’s legs so he can sit down. “Lemme see.”
He skims the text, skipping over all adjectives, only pulling out what’s necessary from the text. It’s from a slightly shady website catered to either horny teenagers or confused virgins. Akira feels as if Ryuji fits into both categories well enough.
