Summary
Will Byers is caught in the grip of his self-proclaimed vice of 'want.' It's why he's hooked on drugs and cigarettes and pain and sex, and it's why he blames himself for what's happened to him. He believes that, because of this, he's unlovable except for people wanting him as an object. Luckily, his best friend Mike shows him that it's not true and he's still loved and worthy even if he's broken.

Summary
Dreams about Will’s time in the Upside Down aren’t uncommon, but in the years since his disappearance and return, they had finally begun to dwindle in quantity. After his encounter with Vecna forcing the memories he had tried so hard to bury back to the surface, the dreams were happening every night.
Tonight, the gun is heavy in Will’s cold hands, but he lifts it nonetheless, firing and running without turning back, the bullet striking his foe (if the scream of the beast was any indication of his aim). He runs, and runs, and runs until he has run his energy dry, and then he runs some more. And then he climbs, the jagged bark from the tree digging into his palms, and his arms burn with the exertion, and he keeps climbing, and for one moment, one foolish moment, he thinks he is safe.

Will thrashes out of his covers, and finds the cool metal of his flashlight on the floor next to him.
He pushes the button until his joints protest, and a noise is pulled from his throat that he hadn’t heard himself make in years.
Karen’s candle flickers on the table next to him. The flame is laughing at him. He’s sure of it.

Will is scared of the dark, and has a bad relationship with open flames. Mike tries, and Guy Gardener is there too- only, he is in the form of a glo-worm.

Summary
“Will?” Mike whispers. “What—” he trails off. Dustin and the others are shouting over the walkie, all their voices overlapping in panic, but Mike’s only listening to Will.
“Use it on me.”
Will shifts on his knees, his grip on Mike’s arm tightening like he knows Mike is dying to run. He places the knife into Mike’s hand.
“At the military zone, I felt like I was burning when they hurt it. It has to work the other way around, right? It’s a hivemind. If you hurt me, it should weaken all of them.”
Or: in a moment of panic, Will convinces Mike to hurt him to save the Party. In another moment of panic, Mike kisses him to keep him conscious.
