The first thing his beating heart ever does is lie, announcing to the world that Hikaru Indou is alive.
He absolutely doesn’t belong here, without a soul of his own. His insides roll and quiver in a hungry void, completely out of place with the twinkling lights of the human souls all around him. Even the animal souls nearby keep their distance. He shouldn’t be here. He doesn’t feel like he’s allowed to be here.
He’s happy he is anyway.

Hikaru wore a watch given to him by his father, so ‘Hikaru’ does as well.
It’s a million memories. It’s been with him through so much. As vital as a limb. A source of comfort. The ticking reminder of a father’s love.
It’s not his to have. He doesn’t have a father, and he’s certainly not Hikaru; Yoshiki has reminded him of that many times.
And so this morning he leaves the watch on the desk.

"Hey, Yoshiki... look." He stops to marvel in front of one display in particular, but his arms are slack at his sides. The creatures bobbing inside are mostly transparent, but the light shining through them highlights their multicolor reality: the blue of their bodies; the yellow-green of their internal organs; their numerous tendrils, tipped with purple and fluorescent pink. The placard beneath the tank reads 'Flower Hat Jellyfish'. "This one kinda looks like me."
He's right. They're beautiful.
