The sun chose that moment to come out in solidarity, bathing Nick in victorious summer gold. His hair glinted copper in the light, the swooping forelock fluttering cinematically in the breeze like a glorified Pantene advert. Give that ginger fringe an Oscar, Charlie thought, feeling slightly delirious.
He was definitely gawking like an idiot. But he didn’t care, because Nick looked fucking resplendent. A bisexual dreamboat. A carve-him-into-marble-and-display-him-in-the-V&A artistic masterpiece.
Nick caught Charlie’s lovestruck gaze and bit down on his lip, his smile turning positively dopey.
Both of them were so transfixed on each other, neither noticed the low hanging tree branch rapidly approaching Nick at eye level. Until it was too late.
The Paris Squad go on a boat race. Higgs vs Truham. It goes about as smoothly as you might expect.

Summary
A boy in Hamlet house had thought it would be funny to write the word MISTLETOE on strips of paper in sharpie, and blu-tack them to the ceiling above each form room desk. Since then, the pieces of paper had been falling down one by one, courtesy of the barely adhesive blu-tack. They should have been easy enough for Charlie to ignore—he’d witnessed his fair share of festive abominations. But the catch was this: whoever still had mistletoe above their heads at the end of term had to kiss their desk partner.
To the rest of the boys, it was just a stupid game. Lads being lads, all that bullshit. To Charlie, it was doing all sorts of things to his sorry gay heart.
Charlie is fed up with Truham’s Christmas festivities. First there’s the mistletoe game, which feels too gay to be true, and is no doubt setting him up for disappointment. And then there’s the Truham-Higgs Candy Cane Exchange, which is a brutal yearly reminder of how single he is.
But when he receives a candy cane from a secret admirer, all of that changes...

The point was that, when it came to Charlie, Nick would do almost anything. Even if it was something he’d never thought himself capable of before. Even if it involved losing some (or all) of his dignity.
The Truham-Higgs concert band is short of a percussionist. Charlie has the brilliant idea of getting Nick involved. There’s just one small problem: Nick’s complete lack of musical ability.

“Swashbuckling?” Charlie offered.
“Better than my pirate dreams,” Nick breathed. He wasn’t even joking. He felt like something had just awakened inside of him.
Charlie snorted. “Oh my god, Nick. Now, will you help me with—”
Nick grabbed the wig from Charlie’s hand and tossed it behind him. “Can I kiss you?”
Charlie’s eyes widened. “Now?”
“I’d rather not get a bunch of synthetic beard in my mouth, so... yes?”
In answer, Charlie kicked the bedroom door closed with the heel of his black leather boot. He grabbed Nick’s frilly white scarf and yanked their faces together.
