His Timmy doll sat beside him through everything, watching him with those bright blue felt eyes as Peri grew until he could no longer barely wrap his arms around the doll anymore. The Timmy doll reminded Peri of his own wish as he finally waved his cane in his purple button-up and suspenders for the first time. Peri wished that he could bring back those memories, that he could recreate those moments with a godkid of his own someday.

Summary
The chances that this'll actually work out in his favor are sort of pathetically low. He's lived with the Dimmadomes long enough to know that Dale doesn't exactly do one-on-one interactions with other people if he knows a drone could handle it just as well. Peri honestly isn't entirely sure why he's trying this in the first place. Dev’s not meant to have a godparent anymore after what happened. That's what Da Rules say, and he's abided by them all his time to make sure his very first godkid would turn out okay.
Nothing turned out okay, though. And taking Peri away didn't fix that. It didn't make the pain inside hurt any less. It didn't erase the fact that the Anti-Fairies used Dev from the start. It didn’t make Dale a better father—and it never would.

Losing their fairy godparent doesn't make a kid any less miserable. Maybe, just this once, Peri can find it in himself to break the rules a little.
OR: Peri finds out his parents never got officially assigned to their current godchild. He follows in their footsteps after losing his very first.

I made a few changes based on a few “What if” scenarios. Where instead of the cage being in the same room as everything else, it’s more hidden away. Wanda and Cosmo don’t come in until a bit later, the idea that Peri wouldn’t be able to do anything anyway so everyone left him alone, and instead of having to restore the magic all Dev needed to do was make a wish and Peri would be okay + I did change how magical build up was framed than in the show - still has the confetti, glitter and rainbows but it seems a lot more painful.
The changes are purely for this fanfic and are there to ramp up the angst - so, enjoy :D

Something always nagged the back of Dev's mind- something, that reminded him of someone- someone he couldn't remember. He couldn't remember his face, or his voice. His personality, his eyes- but he did remember he had treated him quite... badly, to say the least. Dev remembered the yelling- the yelling that had escaped his own mouth. He remembered his own complaining, his own anger and annoyance- which was hurt, bottled deep, deep down. He remembered the anger he had felt when he hadn't felt like he had got what he had wanted- and then he remembered how that feeling had vanished, once he had learned that unknown void of a someone cared about him, remembered him.
The only thing he could remember of that was the color.The color of Periwinkle.
