"Ava?" Beatrice began. Ava's head snapped towards her, a shocked look in her eyes at seeing someone else in the room. "Are you..."
She trailed off. Even in the dim lighting of the bathroom, Beatrice could tell Ava was in distress. The girl was out of breath, almost struggling to breathe, and her lip was busted open, blood staining the front of her top. Ava's right eye was bruised and her upper arm was slashed, blood running down her arm.
"Fuck," the girl muttered, wiping her lip with the hem of her shirt when she caught Beatrice staring.
Beatrice got a glimpse of the girl's stomach, toned and rock solid but covered in a scar that must have been from an ugly gash. She swallowed hard.
