Entry VI: Reputation
Estinien could sense that Aymeric was upset with him the same way animals could sense an impending earthquake. The other knight gave no outward indication of his mood as was proper for one of his adoptive breeding, but the tension between them was a cold spot on the back of Estinien's neck- notable as the summer was particularly hot and that heat hung in the air of the stables as if trapped within the miasma of old hay and chocobo shit. -

"Sheriff Aymeric de Borel wasn't sure what to make of Estinien. Introduced himself as a bounty hunter, said his last name was "Wyrmblood", and that he was in town in search of a man carrying an eastern blade. Any local would have known immediately who he meant, but Aymeric wanted to know /how/ this stranger knew of Galvus."
A continuation of my Free Day fill for Estimeric Week 2024, revamped to kick off a multichapter story with the addition of a prologue. Newly named sheriff of the town where he is otherwise regarded as something of a pariah, Aymeric de Borel enlists the help of a passing bounty hunter to investigate the death of the previous sheriff. Attributed to the very outlaw the gunman Estinien Wyrmblood is tracking, the pair set out to Fort Dragonhead to pursue a lead and get to the truth of the matter.

Aymeric isn't sure what to make of Estinien. Introduced himself as a bounty hunter, said his last name was "Wyrmblood", and that he was in town in search of a man carrying an eastern blade. Any local would have known immediately who he meant, but Aymeric wanted to know how this stranger knew of Galvus. Drawn by the price on his head perhaps, but from where?[Fic title is in reference to the Mountain Goats song of the same name because I am a goober]

Estinien's frame shakes with quiet laughter, his fingers treading over the knee-high grass and wildflowers. He looks gorgeous in the sunshine—it's been so, so many years since Aymeric has seen him under anything other than the cold and ice of Ishgard. Even the sun of the old Coerthas was never half as bright and warm. It reflects beautifully off his skin, off the tan he'd gained since leaving the city. It makes Aymeric's heart hurt.

Summary
He would paint a scene with words, of how crimson blood stains the white canvas of the snow-covered gnoll. The eye is drawn to the stark contrast of the deep blues that yet adorn his body and the blinding white of the landscape.
A year has passed since the Final Days, and Aymeric de Borel's attention has shifted to the remnants of Thordan Loyalists. Though their numbers have dwindled in the wake of the Final Days, they yet persist, and their experiments in Azys Lla grow worse and worse. On one fateful night meant to route the enemy with finality, his troop is ambushed. Presumed to be dead, Ishgard must continue to function, as does one Estinien Varlineau.

Estinien takes on a contract as the bodyguard to Lord Aymeric, the newly elected ruler of Ishgard. Someone's out to assassinate him, and it's up to Estinien to keep him safe. But he must also guard his heart against his handsome and charismatic charge.
