Summary
The Iliad alludes to Athena mentoring both Diomedes and Odysseus...or the possibility of it, at least. (thank the gods for Ao3)
Athena sees a potential pair of warriors in the two boys she mentors - yes, two - and decides to train 'em young. It all seems to be going well, except for the fact that they can't seem to simply get along!
Diomedes is from Argos and Odysseus is just in Argos for whatever reason I made up lol.
They have beef almost immediately and yeah eventually become friends, found family and allat.Series

Summary
The halls of Ithaca had changed in twenty years. Or maybe it was Odysseus who had changed.
The weight of his journey still clung to him, like salt from the sea stubbornly refusing to wash away. The bed he once shared with Penelope was familiar, her presence a soothing balm, her love a steadying hand upon his worn shoulders. The kingdom, once a dream he longed to return to, was his again. Yet, the one thing that should have been his greatest joy—the son he had left behind—remained a stranger.
~
Odysseus feels like he might have lost the space where he fit in while he was away. He's determined to fix it, but some things need to be cleared up before that can be done.
OR
Odysseus is a Dumbass.

Summary
He held his hand above the flame of the hearth, despite his hesitation he opened his hand and let the toasted wheat fall onto the flame. It wasn’t an offering worthy of a goddess, it was simple grain not meat or wine yet he hoped it would be enough.
In the past, even less had been enough for her to hear him.
Then, in the past he never thought she would abandon him.
“Athena.”
His whispered word echoed in the empty room.
