Ice Cold Steam Engine follows the perspectives of Maya Schoppenboer, Sjef Smolders, and Yfke DeVries, three talented skaters who've dedicated the next six weeks of their life to training for their school's speed-skating tournament for the ultimate reward... bragging rights. Maya, who had no idea she had any talent skating at all, finds out from her father after a race that she's not only talented, but she's fast too! Sjef, a striker for his school's hockey team, dedicates himself to winning this race to settle a rivalry between himself and the head of the speed skating club, Yfke DeVries. Yfke, the final skater, is one of the best U-20 skaters in the whole of Netherlands, and she's spent so much time racing opponents slower than her that she's beginning to become bored. These three, together, alongside six others have dedicated themselves to not just joining this race, but winning it outright! The only question is... who will come out on top?
