Getting a soulmark feels like being hurt.
As if a blade is sliding along his palm, into the divots and lines already in there, creating a new one in its metal wake. Like a thumbnail pressing in and carving a crescent moon into his hand; Katsuki is told that it will pass, and deep down, he knows this, but it does not stop the way his fingers flex and strain and go white-knuckled when his mom stops touching it.
Katsuki wonders for a brief moment, and only for a brief moment, if Izuku is sat at home, stomach churning as his own soulmark appears on the expanse of his body, tracing the etch like permanent ink in his skin. Katsuki blinks it away, and thinks, no, he’ll get one. Zuku will always get one.
(a soulmate au in which fate decides, quietly, that bakugou katsuki and midoriya izuku aren't soulmates. katsuki decides to defy this.)

Teary chasms of green are staring back at him, watery and vibrant and so Will that Mike has to choke back the sob of relief welling in his throat– because it’s not. It can’t be him. It’s impossible.
But then Will’s crying, and he’s falling back into his chair half-limp, like the reprieve of being himself again has sapped all the strength from his body. His voice trembles as he whispers, “God, Mike. I’m so sorry.”

“Go to sleep, Will,” he says again, softer this time, because he’s so fucking red it’s seeping into his voice, “I’ll be here when you wake up.”
A noncommittal noise, “You better be,” the rustle of sheets, Will’s breath puffing away from the walkie-talkie as he drops it somewhere next to his face, probably. Mike doesn’t want to think too hard about how Will is falling asleep, so he doesn’t – he turns to his side and keeps the antenna poked up, walkie by his cheek as he stares up at the ceiling.
There’s a soft light creeping from under the door, through his curtain, peeking, and Mike sighs, drops his head flat on his pillow and tries to fall asleep.
