After breaking an opponent's jaw mid-game, Jayce Talis finds himself deep in a PR disaster—and his career as a rugby star is on the line.

Enter Viktor, a tired but dedicated teacher with a no-nonsense attitude. Self-proclaimed as 'not a fan', Viktor wants nothing to do with Jayce's redemption arc, and even less to do with him.

    Summary

    He pictures the funeral sometimes.

He pictures someone he doesn’t know saying Viktor’s name wrong. He pictures screaming in public. He pictures stealing the ashes and keeping them in a protein powder container because it’s the only vessel big enough. He pictures lying in those ashes like a widow bird. He pictures baking the ashes into bread and feeding them to pigeons in the park.

    He pictures swallowing them himself.

Or: When Viktor chooses a quiet death, Jayce learns how to love him to the edge of the end and carry what’s left through the sad art of letting go.

    Summary

Jayce scanned The Herald’s mask as if he could read into its unchanging features. “You really think we can set all of it aside?”

Viktor came close to him again and offered out his right hand, “I have sacrificed my humanity for the bigger picture, Defender. This is nothing compared to that.”

With Shimmer rampant, and The Council in corrupt waters, Jayce travels to the Undercity to get to the bottom of Shimmer production to expose his colleagues. Coincidentally, his long-time adversary, Viktor, is also looking to end the Shimmer Crisis for the sake of Zaun’s health. Normally, Jayce wouldn’t trust an enemy, but he has no funds or allies in his research. He could only hope he wasn’t making a mistake.

    Summary

“Father Viktor has brought back all those programs you whined about missing. The East Hall is being converted into a soup kitchen as we speak, and after Mass there’s going to be an open-doors Christmas meal,” his mother says wistfully, drinking in a sip from her mug.

Jayce is going to have to see that for himself. His high income neighborhood and the prestigious, self-righteous families that attend the Church? Rubbing elbows with people in need for the holidays?

Maybe he really does need to meet Father Viktor. And shake his hand.

    ─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ───

Or: Jayce comes home for the holidays after a breakup to find a new priest at his childhood Catholic church. Father Viktor is not the kind of person Jayce ever expected to be a priest, but he has a dream to change Jayce's hometown for the better, and he decides to do everything he can to help. The more he helps, the more Jayce sees glimpses of Viktor, the man, not the priest. And the more glimpses he sees of Viktor, the more Jayce is so, so fucked.

    Summary

It is an old saying in Zaun— If they’re mean, they want a fight. If they’re clever about it, they want to fuck. If they do both, you’re in for a good night.

His approach to attraction is a cultural habit, one Viktor has never given much thought to because it has always been true. No one in Zaun flirts openly. They play, they provoke, they get under the skin. And if a partner snaps back just as sharp—well. That’s interest.

Piltovans as a whole don’t seem to understand this. They flirt in ways that are too clean, too direct, too painfully earnest. They go soft first, then ask permission to go softer.

Jayce is a Piltie. He does not have the stomach for the game.

At The Piltover Conservatory, the most prestigious and selective academy in the arts world, talent is everything.

After a disastrous first meeting, Jayce writes Viktor off as caustic, unimpressed, and apparently allergic to basic conversation.

In a twist of academic misfortune, they’re assigned to work together on a project that means months of high-stakes rehearsals and performances. Working together isn’t optional.

But music is built on tension, and dissonance isn’t always meant to be resolved.

    Bookmarker's Notes

dam do I love this fic. author clearly loves music and combines such wonderful insight on how the characters play and compose their music. just such delicious enemies to friends to lovers, feels so earned. also viktor's disability and transness is explored so wonderfully. like I'd be reading and be like oh these are my feelings. have to return and leave comments.
