Mobei Jun’s face turned with amusement. “Not really. I wasn’t able to come right away.”
“So you were watching me,” Shang Qinghua confirmed teasingly.
Mobei Jun walked toward him, the humored upturn of his lips growing. “Only a little.”
Shang Qinghua turned to face him as Mobei Jun came to a stop beside him. “My king,” Shang Qinghua said in belated greeting, ducking his head.
Mobei Jun caught his chin and tilted his head back up. He sighed. “I wish you wouldn’t be so formal sometimes.”

In an attempt to work out an alliance with the king of the Northern Desert, Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu, and Shang Qinghua go to Mobei Jun's palace. Shang Qinghua falls in love. He isn't sure what to do about that.

Ever since he was a child, Mobei Jun had always had a bit of an obsessive nature.
It had started with small things; at first it had been wolves – his uncle had been over for lunch and his mom had forced him to keep him and his father company in the living room while waiting for the food to be served, and they’d put on a nature documentary. Wolves were large, intelligent and natural leaders, and Mobei Jun had been fascinated.
This was a pattern that repeated itself throughout the years. First with wolves, then with Chinese martial arts, then with a specific movie franchise, and yet– and yet, no one had been more surprised than Mobei Jun himself when his new obsession, at the ripe age of 20, turned out to be a person.
His new obsession was Shang Qinghua.

Summary
Shang Qinghua is not stupid.
It does not take a genius to know what it means when you ask a servant where your lord has left to and they readily supply the name of an exclusive brothel in between the two realms. Especially when it's after your utterly disastrous first time together.
So he goes away for a bit to clear his head. And promptly gets kidnapped.

In order to pay off a debt that's not his, Shang Qinghua agrees to marry a man that's as cold and unyielding as he is stupidly rich.
“Marriage?” His voice breaks over the word like it’s a curse. “Really? Doesn’t it feel a bit irrational?”
“Are you planning to pay off an eight-figure debt with this job and a host job?” Mobei Jun asks, and Shang Qinghua almost wants to throttle him. Though, if his wallet didn’t have a direct funnel to his dad’s bank account, Shang Qinghua might actually have been a little comfortable.
“That’s not what I meant!” Shang Qinghua huffs, his head still spinning. As far as being a married man goes, Shang Qinghua is nowhere near ready.
“What?” Mobei Jun raises a single eyebrow. “Were you looking to marry for love?”

Shang Qinghua gets snowed in at the office. With a dead phone and no way to get home, his best option for the night is the one presented by a rather prickly boss.
“How are you getting home?” Mobei Jun asks, and Shang Qinghua shrugs.“Walking?” He suggests, and Mobei Jun narrows his eyes. “Well, no, it's too far and there are no cars nearby. So I was thinking I’ll just stay at a hotel…”
Shang Qinghua trails off as he is met with silence. Mobei Jun simply stares at him, his icy blue gaze pinning Shang Qinghua to the spot. Shang Qinghua thinks he can see an idea percolate behind the man’s eyes, but it is most likely a trick of the light. After all, what could he—
“I live a ten minute walk away,” Mobei Jun states more than says. “It may just be easier to stay the night at my place.”
