“Sorry Cupcake. I don’t mean to, it’s just, I’m not feminine, and kind of on purpose. I mean, I cut my hair like this and wear what I do, do people really see a ‘young lady’ when they look at me?” Vi has stuffed her bandaged hands into her pockets, not really meaning to avoid Caitlyn’s gaze but not meeting it either.
“‘Young lady’ can be a stereotype, you’re right, but sometimes it just means that you’re female and younger than the person saying it. It’s not an insult, is what I mean, darling.”
“Is it… wrong of me to feel like it is? Like I don’t want people to say things like that to me?” At this point Vi’s fucking up her bandages, picking at and fraying the edges, needing something, anything, to do with her hands. She’s not someone who talks about her feelings, especially This feeling, this thing that she carries around and feels so fucking wrong about.

The peace, though, might be less on the agenda than she thought, when a stranger shows up in her rented house a day into her stay. Completely mutually unwilling to fight with the booking company, the two of them make a pact to share the house instead.
