Summary
Beth's life has been easy until one day, it isn't. She struggles to cope with the demands of surviving the apocalypse. Everyone has always protected and sheltered Beth, so she expects the same treatment as she finds her feet but one man seems to go out of his way to antagonise her. Beth starts to learn the reality of the world and people. (Beth is 17 when they meet but turns 18 throughout the story) (Daryl uses some politically incorrect language but no slurs)

Summary
“What’s going on?” asked Shane.
“The RV started smoking,” answered Glenn from where he was leaning against the RV, watching Dale’s movements with a sharp eye.
“How’s it look?” asked Rick.
“I told you all we’d never get far on this hose. I said I needed the one from the cube van,” replied Dale standing back from the RV.
“Can you jury-rig it?” asked Grimes.
Rick closed his eyes knowing the answer. He thought they’d get a bit further on it. That they would have more time.
“That’s all it’s been so far. It’s more duct tape than hose. And I’m out of duct tape.”
Rick pinched his brow. It would be dark soon. He knew if they gave the RV time to cool off then they could get more mileage out of it, but at this rate, it wouldn’t get them to the Greene’s farm. They needed to find a replacement as soon as possible.

Summary
Rick grouped up with his people once it was clear and looked at the people they saved. Rick’s muscles locked in place, and his gaze sharply moved to one of the men who came into camp part way through the attack. The man stepped forward with a young boy on his hip.
“Thank y’all for your help. You saved my family and a lot of people here,” said the man as he took another step forward and held out his free hand, “I’m Rick Grimes.”
Every muscle in Rick’s body was coiled and ready to move. Rick couldn’t help but stare at the man who had introduced himself as ‘Rick Grimes’. The man was clean shaven and wearing his deputy sheriff’s uniform. On his hip was Carl, a young Carl who couldn’t have been more than twelve.
