It’s Daisy who invites her to drinks, a few weeks into Basira's new job as she’s starting to adjust. There’s a couple others in the dingy, decidedly non-exclusive pub when Basira arrives, but it’s Daisy who shifts in the booth to let her in, who splits rounds with her, who listens even if it’s in brooding silence. Basira appreciates that in a colleague. And, well. It's really attractive.

"You're fucked up, you know that?"Every few hundred years or so, Jonny gets the idea to do something nice and quiet with one of his crewmates. With Tim, it turns out to be a nice lakeside camping trip, with some lovely fresh-grilled Jonny meat to eat.

“A demonstration?” Jon asks, and the words come out very level, very careful. He’s still frozen in the same position, like he’s afraid he might spook off a bird that’s miraculously landed on him by moving.
Tim opens his mouth to reply, but only manages it on the second try.
“Yeah,” he says. “Hands on, you know. Let you get to see the thing for yourself.”
“And you would be tying up…” Jon says, trailing off into a silence that begs to be filled, answered.
“You,” Tim confirms, and he thinks he sees Jon shiver as he says it. “I couldn’t-- can’t tie myself up, after all.”
“But I can’t-- I don’t do that,” Jon says, as if remembering himself. He almost sounds disappointed. “I don’t-- I don’t enjoy sex. I’m very certain of that much, I made sure. I can’t--”
“Who said anything about sex?”

It shouldn’t have been surprising to learn that Martin hated him. He had been, he knew, a truly terrible boss - he’d treated Martin horribly, caused him to lose his home, nearly gotten him killed. Really, it had been ridiculous to ever think that Martin wouldn’t hate him.
Still, Jon had been trying, in his own way, to make it up to him. There wasn’t exactly a card at the drugstore that said, “I’m sorry I berated you for six months and caused you to nearly be eaten by a swarm of worms of potentially supernatural origin,” but he’d been trying. He brought Martin breakfast every morning, made sure the breakroom cabinets were stocked with his favorite blends of tea, and had tried to work some genuine praise into his feedback of Martin’s work. None of it was the direct apology that his conscience told him he really ought to give, but Martin had appreciated it. Or seemed to, anyway.
Jon wasn’t certain what motivated the decision he made next - whether it was guilt or spite or something else. He could, he knew, be quite petty when the situation called for it. Either way, he made up his mind then and there to prove Martin wrong. He was going to be the best fake boyfriend he could be.
