Summary
Tales told of a man that was swallowed by the woods.
He’d wandered into the night, drawn by the dark, and a hunger for the unknown unaware it hungered in return. Alone the man stepped into the shadows, into the waiting jaws of his curiosity, and was devoured.
That was all the story described. There was no depiction of the dark or the man that’d perished, only the warning that there was something beyond the village.
Something more.
Something other.
And George believed none of it.

Summary
In a sleepy American town bordering the woods, innocent children go from house to house on Halloween collecting their candy and playing their pranks, oblivious to the hunter that stalks the streets until it's far too late. The hunter swoops in from the shadows, his body twisting into the terrifying beasts from their nightmares, feasting on their fear.
His favourite prey has always been the clever ones, the fast ones, the dangerous ones who dare to fight tooth and nail for their survival.

Summary
“You missed me,” George cuts him off and wraps his arms around his neck, pulling Dream into a second hug that’s somehow warmer than the first, even if less forceful.
“I missed you,” Dream affirms, the top of George’s head so close to his lips that he can feel his breathing shifting his hair. “So much, George.”
“I know,” George whispers, and Dream can hear the smile in his voice. And Dream knows that even if he doesn’t say it, the way George’s thumb brushes against his hair at the nape of his neck means I missed you too.
or; George comes home for the summer after his first year away at college, and Dream decides 800 miles of driving are his last chance to convince him to stay.

Summary
George finally made his move, bringing the knife that Dream had known that he had at his fingertips this whole time up and aiming for Dream’s chest. Dream, reacting almost immediately since he had known this was coming, grabbed his wrist and forced his swing to go wide. He bent his wrist away from him, but not enough to risk breaking it. “Who do you work for?” Dream asked, managing to keep his voice remarkably casual given the position they were in. Good. It had been awhile; nice to see that he hadn’t lost his touch.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” George tried to wiggle his wrist out of Dream’s grasp but he just tightened his fingers, feeling the delicate bones of the hunter’s wrist moving under his skin. He had been right; George was clearly experienced but when it came down to it, he just didn’t have the strength to take Dream down.

Dream's a vampire living a mostly peaceful life in Virginia until he messes up, gets caught, and ends up with a vampire hunter on his tail. George is an infamous vampire hunter but gets thrown off when he accidentally ends up sort of friends with the person he's supposed to be killing.
