Naruto was never truly welcome in Konoha, after all. Sasuke simply struggled to survive, nurturing his hatred for the one person who seemed responsible for his parents' deaths and the massacre of his clan. Naruto envied Sasuke for having a reason to hate; all he had —as he always had, for as long as he could remember— was an emptiness in his chest. He didn't understand, didn't understand why the villagers despised him so utterly, as if he were a monster.
Until he finally understood, and not only him, Sasuke understood that he had been a pawn his entire life, and pawns —most of the time, if not always— are disposable and useless.
Both are trying to survive in a world that turned its back on them at a young age. Because sometimes, in the absence of hope, the Will of Fire, the flame, the spark, simply goes out.
And with that, darkness begins to embrace their souls.

It wasn’t like landlords were kind anywhere, not even in a beach area.
It’d be stupid to call it a beach. More of a lake town, with jagged rocks and wooded areas all around. Few job opportunities too, which is why Naruto was pulling part–time shifts to cover his half of the rent and utilities. They’d rented together for a few contractual years that weren’t up yet, which means it was fine to discard that they had to go their separate ways in the future. Sasuke described it as growing up, as if he didn’t have pictures of Naruto with a cake that said 20 on it buried somewhere in their messages.Bookmarked by reallifecryptid

He kept thinking it over and over – why Sasuke would so vehemently be against revealing his face. In Naruto’s opinion there were multiple possibilities and all of them were horrible. For once, it could be related to Naruto’s own picture that he had sent, maybe Sasuke took one glance at it and didn’t like him. This might be his way of turning Naruto down gently. But on the other hand, they had never really talked about anything more than friendship, so this was only about Naruto’s own feelings mixing into his logic. There are even worse scenarios though. All of this could be a farce.
