Thorin does not like the idea of taking a gentle soul from the gentle hills that spawned him only to face certain death. He has too much weighing on him already and his people at least are of hardy Dwarfish stock.
All Dwarves are born to be craftsmen and warriors, to wield both hammer and axe in service of their homes. They may be tinkers, toy makers, and untested youths now but that will change. The seeds of something greater lurks in each of them and is only waiting for the right chance to grow.
It doesn’t occur to him until many months and miles will have gone by that the same could be said of their Halfling.

A cool breeze rushes past just then as if reacting to Fili’s words. Braids are pushed around playfully, beads clinking together in rhythm, and fresh air fills the stale corridors bringing with it life and hope to the ghosts longing for reprieve. Bard is not sure what awaits a hobbit after their earthly bodies retire, but he is certain it is warm and peaceful. It is what he hopes awaits the men in Lake-town and the dwarves standing before him battered and beaten by loss.
“Then the world truly is lesser for his passing.”

That's the prompt, basically. Bilbo taking care of a tiny Smaug who behaves like to most spoiled cat. Filler can take it anywhere, but a few possible directions are:
1)an always-cat-sized Smaug tries to claim Erebor. Only instead of fire and death, all the dwarves have to contend with this pest that hisses tiny flames at anyone who gets too close to his gold-nest. Bilbo is in Erebor for (insert reason) and somehow turns out to be an excellent dragon wrangler
2)Something turned normal Smaug into his tiny form (maybe the arkenstone is sentient and cursed Smaug?) but even though he's too small to do much damage, he's still nearly unkillable. He latches on to Bilbo, who is the most sympathetic to his weakened form
though again, to be clear, those are only ideas. Literally the only thing really important to me here is Bilbo taking care of a cat-like Smaug. BONUS: include a scene of that third picture (where Bilbo is clipping Smaug's claws)

Lets say that the term 'halfling' is an extreme insult to Hobbits.
and during the Journey, Bilbo doesn't realise that the Dwarves don't know what the term actually means and doesn't understand why they are being so vulgar towards him.
Lets also say that Gandalf was riding too far ahead or something and doesn't realise what's going on until dinner one night when he hears one of the dwarves (Bofur/Ori? Plz?) jokingly call Bilbo 'Halfling' and is furious.
Gandalf:"BOFUR! Do NOT use that word in my presence again!"

He closed the door on the ghosts of his parents and the echo of Frodo’s and filled his lungs with fresh cool air before marching down to Frodo who was feeding his Pony, Coal, an apple.
“Alright lad, are you ready for an adventure?” he asked and Frodo looked up at him with Primula’s eyes and Drogo’s shy smile.
