“Almost,” he corrects her, because it hasn’t been.
Not yet. Even though it’s really not far off anymore and Satoru does very empathetically not want to think about this.
“He’s not coming back,” Shoko cruelly says and just hearing it makes Satoru’s eyes burn.
“You don’t know that,” he whispers, unable to hold her gaze for any longer but he does hear the incredulous huff she lets out.

A young man entered the cafe at speed, wild-eyed and panting. He locked eyes with Suguru and a moment later had vaulted over the counter and crouched at his feet, back pressed against the bar.
Suguru watched this happen with the vague detachment of the extremely overtired. He thought absently that it was lucky he’d cleaned up the drinks or they would have impeded what had been a rather impressive hurdle. The athlete in question was looking up at him with the most stunning blue eyes he’d ever seen.
He looked fucking terrified.

The knocking continued persistently as he went to unlock it. It stopped when he heard the click, and then Suguru was opening the door.
Satoru barreled through the door as soon as the knob turned, as though he also had a hand on it, pushing it open. Suguru scrambled back from the door, and Satoru threw himself into Suguru’s arms with so much force that Suguru stumbled a few steps until his back hit the wall.
“Holy shit, Satoru,” he shouted, hands coming up to grasp his arms. “You animal, what the hell are you doing!”

Suguru and Satoru had been best friends since childhood. Suguru is in love with him, and that complicates things.
