Awareness seems to come slowly to the boy. His eyes blink once, then twice with increasing clarity. Shakily, his hands rise from his sides as he stares down at them with barely concealed awe.
“I am…” He says once, doubt clear in his voice. It is surprisingly gentle and pleasant.
The boy’s outline wavers for a second, as if unsure, before steadying itself. His head whips up as he observes his surroundings with vigor, eyes greedily devouring the entire school rooftop. He looks like someone seeing a place they never thought they'd see again.
His eyes lock onto Yoichi, still clutching at the old railing, and his mouth parts in surprise.
“I am Itoshi Rin,” he finally gasps out, “and I am dead.”
