“A few weeks…not too long. It’ll fly by.”
Deep down Mike knows it’s not true. He’s going to feel every single second that they’re stuck in Derry, because every second is another second that he’ll have to pretend everything is okay. Pretend that the little conversation he had with Hopper before graduation actually did anything at all, that he isn’t still all torn up inside. But he can’t say any of that to his mother, not after everything the Upside Down has put her through, too.
He says instead, “I don’t even remember these people,” because that’s also true.
Karen lets out a soft laugh. “I’m not surprised. It’s been so long.” She shakes her head. “I hardly remember them myself. That’s what makes this exciting.”
Exciting is certainly a word for it. Sure.

Summary
Technically speaking, Bev doesn’t shower him. He explicitly asked her not to do that, and she respected his wishes even in his fucked-up state. She just stood on the other side of the curtain, on call in case he slipped and fell, which he didn’t, thank you very much. He just sorta…cried. A lot. That’s equally embarrassing as falling, but he finds that being three bottles of Budweiser deep makes it hard to care.
“I put your sheets in the wash,” Bev says once Richie’s out of the shower and dressed in semi-clean clothes. “But I think that you should probably just order a new set.”
Richie just groans and rests his head on the arm of his couch. “Fuck you.”
“Yeah, yeah, fuck me, I get it.” She sighs. “What exactly are you on right now?”
“Just high on life, Bevvie.”

There are certain things that Richie…struggles with—that he always has struggled with. Reading the room, for one, or reading peoples’ emotions. His own volume is another big one. But the biggest one of the bunch is routine. His parents stopped reminding him every night about his teeth when he was six. By then, he’d done it every night for years, so that (in combination with his dad’s job) meant that they thought it was a given he’d remember on his own. He didn’t.

Summary
He didn’t know what he expected to see when he barged into the room, but Eddie hooked up to a thousand beeping machines and smiling brightly at him wasn’t it. Richie skidded to a stop in the doorway, nearly causing a pile up behind him. His breath caught inside his chest at the sight of Eddie, his hair a riotous mess and his doe eyes wide and glassy.
“Hey, guys,” Eddie said when he saw them. There was a nurse tinkering with one of the machines beside him.
They ignored her and huddled around Eddie’s bed. Richie stood near the back corner and drank in the sight of him. He squeezed his hands together and bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from crying. Again. Jesus.

Summary
Eddie loves his job, he really does. Even with all the shit a group of twenty-six ten year-olds can throw at him, he still loves what he does. Really, the parents are far worse than the kids, too many of them fitting the stereotypical mold of what an obnoxious LA parent is. He rarely interacts with them face-to-face, most discussion passing through the middlemen of their nannies and drivers, or via incessant emails about their uniquely-named child’s dietary restrictions. His actual students aren’t even the cause for at least half of the issues that plague him as a teacher at a private Los Angeles elementary school. Most of them are well-mannered, capable, socially aware kids, if not a little spoiled thanks to their environment.
But then there’s Little Miss Peggy Tozier.

Summary
Richie comes out publicly during the 27 years. He still has an absurdly specific type that no man can live up to but he's openly gay. Eddie, who has never found this comedian funny and — while he cares about gay people in a nebulous way — isn't exactly a queer rights activist, is compelled to argue with anyone sending Richie hate. He doesn't even think this is weird or over the top until Richie does a bit about him.
