“Fine,” Mu Qing says out of nowhere. “Fine, but we’re going to your palace. My deputies don’t need to know about this.”
“Um?” Feng Xin’s mind is blank. Mu Qing can’t be saying what Feng Xin thinks he’s saying. He can’t be implying that he’s willing to — to do anything about the curse. He can’t be. Mu Qing looks away, and the long line of his neck catches Feng Xin’s eye. Maybe his brain isn’t blank after all, because now it’s filled with thoughts of marking Mu Qing’s skin where it will show above his collar.
Feng Xin and Mu Qing are sent to retrieve a cursed scroll that contains a dangerous aphrodisiac. Somehow, they both end up touching it.

“I’m so clumsy today,” Jin Guangyao murmured as he placed his hands on the broad chest that cushioned his fall. Slowly, he pushed himself up into a sitting position. He could feel the other’s erratic heartbeat under his palm, the body more honest than the man.
“Please excuse my ineptitude, Sect leader Nie.” Sprawled across Nie Mingjue’s lap their position was more than a little suggestive, but Nie Mingjue made no move to throw him off.
He seemed almost frozen in place, and Jin Guangyao had to admit that he liked the view. Finally, Nie Mingjue wasn’t looking look down on him anymore and the thought stirred something dark and hungry inside him.
A little sparring exercise leads to a revelation for Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue.

“Give me your forehead ribbon,” he commands, and it’s such a brazen request it makes him dizzy, but Lan Xichen does it. He undoes the ribbon, then places it in Jin Guangyao’s outstretched palm. Jin Guangyao’s fingers close over it, and it feels like a promise.
He leans in. Lan Xichen doesn’t lean away. Lan Xichen permits Jin Guangyao to put his filthy mouth on Lan Xichen’s lips and kiss him.
