This was inspired by @Verecunda’s Frontier Wolf fics, as they are juicy Christmas plums to me in these bad times.

Also let me be really clear that while this particular fic is from Gavros’ perspective and Hilarion is sort of along for the ride as he is wont to be, Alexios and Hilarion are Redneck Married. they get old together hunting and yapping and fucking till they shuffle off this mortal coil ok??? in my heart that’s what happens.
and Gavros is happily their third when he has the chance.
i actually extremely want to write Gavros/Hilarion bathhouse blowjob sometime.

Hilarion never did listen to his feelings till at least 6 months after they appear. This time, it works out for him.
I am not a historian, much less of the Celts or the Romans, but most of the Druid stuff in here is from Peter Beresford Ellis' book "The Druids". Imagine my delight upon learning there were lady Druids.
I had a wonderful time writing this, and hope to do some sketches to accompany it. I've always wanted to draw Hilarion and Alexios, and Connla is just begging for a feisty portrayal,even though he doesn't really appear here except in implied death.
Anyway, enjoy and happy Yuletide. :)

It is in blatant disagreement with both a great deal of LOTR canon and also common sense in our own world, including but not limited to:
-where to take a pulse
-whether or not one could sneak in and out of Minas Tirith. (Highly debatable)
-whether or not inhabitants of Middle earth say the word “fuck”
-whether or not anyone could actually sneak up to within 20 feet of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli without them catching it.
-whether or not one could survive a fall from a massive waterfall: for precedent we may refer to the many wild exploits of people going over Niagara, and Faramir’s account of seeing Boromir’s funeral canoe go past. So, this one is a maybe.Please keep this in mind while reading. Also I cannot resist writing stupid jokes, so this is vastly different in tone from the source material. RIP stylistic consistency.

Summary
Part one of my Yuletide 2018 installment for fresne: a charming little snapshot of Grendel's relationship with his mother. I kinda just ran with the implications in the text about their demonic/eldritch nature.
I am not a medievalist so this may be WILDLY off-base, but I had fun writing it.
I have an illustration or two to add also, hopefully within the week. :)
Somewhat influenced by the descriptions of draconic intelligence in The Hobbit and Terry Pratchett's books. A cold, ancient sort of intelligence and an almost loveless bond, with less potential for the redemption and forgiveness humans are so fond of in stories.
The other part is the human perspective, with a little more warmth than this one lol.
