“Wow,” Impulse said again, after reading over it properly. “A love letter?”
“A love letter!” Gem repeated, flinging her arms up and gesturing vaguely at the air as she began to rant. “From Pearl, of all people! And she left a present, tons of sweets and flowers, Impulse. Flowers! She gave me flowers!”
“Okay, okay, uh- can we slow down a little?” Impulse said, keeping his voice calm. Gem forced herself to stop pacing and met Impulse eyes, holding back her tongue. “Why exactly is this such a big deal?”
“Because Pearl sent me a love letter! How is that not a big deal?”
(Or, in which Gem re-evaluates her feelings about a certain, very special someone, Pearl is very confused but delighted all the same, and Impulse's master plan has finally come to fruition.)

“Stay as long as you like, there’s a booth open in the corner. Your drink will be ready in a bit.” Cleo stated, walking back into the barista’s area to make it. Gem acknowledged this through a haze, finding the aforementioned booth and setting her bag down. She sat there, lost in thought and self-pity, until an unfamiliar voice made her look up.
“A chai latte with oat milk and brown sugar syrup, for Gem?” The woman spoke, Gem’s drink on her platter.
Wow, she's pretty.
Gem has a terrible day and then meets Pearl at a café.

Gem only recently discovered who she really is, the princess of Eremita. With her coronation in only a week, she has to adapt to her new life quickly. As the threat of war creeps ever closer Gem is forced to step into her role as princess as the fate of the kingdom depends on it.
Pearl is the newly appointed handmaiden to the princess. She was resentful at first because the royal family were the ones keeping her and her brother enslaved, but soon she realized that not every royal is all that bad. Princess Gem is so nice to her even after finding out about her wings. When her brother is planning the assassination, of the Princess, she’s caught between her best friend and her family.
