Summary
At once, all of the pieces come together, and Mike isn’t sure he likes the shape they take. It’s like someone has taken a ball of red string into his brain and begun connecting years of memories he has worked so hard to ignore.
The painting. The red string reaches for another memory: El’s letter from that spring. All the shared looks that were meant only for the two of them. That day in the rain. Each shoulder bump. Every unnecessary brush of the knee.
Crimson yarn stretches into the recesses of his mind: The way Mike would always sit just a touch too close. The way Will would always let him. How lost Mike felt the year Will was in California. How he could never find the right words to say. The weird feeling Mike got in his chest when he saw Will at the airport, and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. The worst week of his life, back in 83’. "If we both go crazy, at least we’ll go crazy together, right?"
The string loops back around and grabs one final piece of the puzzle: Tammy motherfucking Thompson.

Summary
His eyes scanned the landscape, stomach twisting into knots at the rush of memories, good and bad. He could almost see his sister, like a mirage, decked out in a set of Nancy’s old gym clothes, flying above the old school bus. The ghost of a smile passed his lips, rapidly fading as his heart broke all over again.
Will wasn’t sure how much more sorrow his body could carry before he ran out of space to breathe. Now that the Wheelers were more settled, and the military was in full retreat, there was nowhere left to turn his attention but inwards. And he didn’t want to look inwards anymore. He’s spent so much of his life in contemplation and reflection, and for once, he wanted to let go of the past, but it clung to him, wrapped around him like barbed wire.

Summary
There's a restaurant on the corner of the block, and it’s the kind of place that people assume is a front because it's always empty. But it's not a front for anything untoward; the owner is just bad at business. Because the restaurant only has one table, and no one is allowed to sit there.
It’s a small place, but well-maintained. There’s a counter with a cash register and a kitchen in the back. But most of the space is taken up by a permanently set table, small and square, with a chair on either end. There’s a nice but plain navy tablecloth draped over it, with two empty plates and neatly set utensils opposite each other. Two empty glasses sit next to a small pitcher of water, routinely refreshed but never poured. Unlit candles frame an embossed place card reading “reserved” in fine, cursive letters.

Summary
The first time she had asked him if she could look at his art, it was the summer before they moved to California.
El had been quieter than usual, with them all under the impression that Hop was dead, and sometimes she would knock on Will’s door and ask if she could borrow a book to read, or a pen to write with, or ask if he had a shirt that might fit her. The fourth day in a row that she had knocked on his door, Will remembers her hesitating and looking around the room, as if trying to come up with a reason for her to be there. He remembers feeling stupid for taking so long to realize that El hadn’t needed any of that stuff, but was reaching out in the only way she could think to (looking back, it wasn’t actually that long, but that entire summer felt like it was passing so slowly after the encounter at the mall). That fourth time, Will spoke up before El could say anything.

The Byers were staying at Hopper’s new place indefinitely or at least for the summer (and Mike had a plan):
Mike’s Plan for His Weird “Feelings” (and other unsaid things)
1. Everything is fine.
2. Will's face or otherwise broad shoulders have no effect on him
3. He does not want to taste Will’s lips.
4. He will spend the next week being very normal around his best friend, and spend an all-together very pleasant time.
5. Because: everything is fine, he is a self-functioning, intelligent person.or alternatively: mike wheeler attempts to not be an idiot in front of will as his half-assed plan falls apart as he stays with them for a week.

Summary
When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)
