The rest of the night was filled with hot, selfish fury, whiting out during kills and keeping constant tabs on Johnny. He led them toward the church, toward a perch, somewhere he knew he’d be able to take control of the situation, get Johnny out.
He almost made it to the church steps. He heard Johnny calling his name before the bastards drove Soap back. Ghost was pinned on his back when he roared for Johnny to take a vehicle and get out.

They'd been seeing each other a while now. The commute wasn't awful, though Simon's place was a bit cramped. Johnny had taken to inviting Simon over to his instead. Simon was the one with the ride and Johnny was closer to the city. Johnny was also the one with the cat, and Simon has always been happy to accommodate such a lifestyle. Actually, the settled life suited Simon, Soap was starting to think. His nerves were cooling, the longer they were together. The anxiety wasn't as bad, he wasn't so closed off anymore.
Johnny was feeling better, too, but that had always been an obvious result of Simon's presence. It seemed like absolute madness that only last January they had been such wrecks. It didn't seem so chaotic at the time, because, well, they were having fun. They'd always been so close as comrades, then inseparable as friends. Soap had started to settle down but Ghost, Ghost was wild and unaccustomed to human presence. Soap had a lot of training to do before Ghost would ever be ready to come home.
