Summary
“It’ll be amazing,” Hob says, hoping to transfer his own excitement to Morpheus. “Think of it as an adventure.”
“An adventure,” Morpheus repeats, skeptical, but he’s smiling.
It’s not as if Hob Gadling hates his job as assistant stage manager at The White Horse Theater. It's a solid gig. But there is something missing in his life, and Hob’s itching to chase it down. As luck would have it, Dream—the bassist for the quickly rising band Endless—needs a new touring bass tech. Even as they initially butt heads, Dream captivates Hob, and he wonders what it is about the quiet musician that charms him in even their smallest interactions. It’s going to be a long ride, but Hob has never felt more eager for it.

Summary
“You aggravate me,” Morpheus’ voice rumbles against Hob’s skin, low and breathy, like he can’t help but contradict himself just a bit longer before he pulls away completely.
Morpheus pulls a hand through his hair, neatly getting it back into place and tugging on the lapels of his jacket.
Hob watches, his chest rising and falling visibly as Morpheus, deeming himself presentable again, moves his gaze back to Hob.
“Get on the floor. On your back.”

Dream doesn’t even look at Hob while he speaks, continuing to stare into the middle distance, turning the tin can in his hold around and around.
Finally, Dream sighs, his shoulders going with it as he turns to bodily face Hob, planting one foot on the bench and almost curling around his bent knee pressed against his chest.

It was electrifying, like stepping closer and closer to the edge of a cliff, becoming more and more brave with every try; revisiting and becoming giddy in the progression. Soon Dream wouldn’t fear to fling himself off the ledge, knowing Hob would catch him at the bottom.
Currently, the sounds of his windows rattling from the flurries outside fill his dark flat, along with the flutter of the open flames on his range, and the quiet drip, drip, drip of the kitchen tap (to prevent frozen pipes, Dream had learned that lesson the hard way last winter).
