When Michael follows David into the suffocating, pitch-black depths of the cave's hidden tunnel, the boundaries of his reality completely collapse. What starts as a desperate, prideful need to prove he isn't afraid quickly spirals into a fever dream of absolute physical surrender. Braced against the freezing stone wall, Michael is claimed. Ruined, possessed, and split open by a predatory force he has no power to resist before being pushed to the ultimate test: a weightless, terrifying drop off the bridge into David's waiting arms.
But waking up the next morning brings a different kind of terror. The deep purple bruises Michael remembers on his hips are gone. His skin is smooth, unmarked, and pristine. Yet the taste of copper still coats his throat, and the morning sunlight feels like a violent, physical assault.
Left shivering in the dark, Michael is forced to confront the most terrifying question of all: Did it actually happen, or is his own mind gaslighting him into sanity?

"It's been years, David. I'm different than I used to be," Michael whispered, resisting the urge to kiss. Oh, how easy it was to fall back into this. It made him miss Star even more. Him, Star, and David against the world might have been perfect. For a few brief weeks during a summer in the 80s, it was. If he were to give in, he wished it were with her, too.
David brushed a thumb under Michael's eye, catching the tear that began to form.
"Not that much different. Still hot-headed. Still hot." Michael couldn't help but chuckle when David waggled his eyebrows. It was a silly side that David rarely showed, but there had been moments. "Besides, I'm different too," David closed the distance, and Michael sighed into the kiss.
