Max wasn’t breathing properly. Not because of fear. Because of how damn beautiful Charles looked in that moment, dangerous and wild and loyal to steel.

Summary
Nate enters the locker room slowly. He loves the hope that comes with each new season. The possibility of winning always feels the most real before any games have been played, when everyone’s gear is shiny new and the excitement in the room is palpable.
This season though - he’s been dreading it. The locker room feels slightly off, nothing Nate could actually put his finger on but leaves him with a sense of overwhelming discomfort. The same feeling he’d had this summer when Tyson called - “Toronto,” he’d said. Just the one word, and Nate had come undone.

Summary
The NHL keeps a Central Registry of every team’s Emergency Backup Goaltender, or EBUG, an individual who must be prepared to play for either the home or visiting team should both goalies be taken out of commission. When the Registry was digitized in the mid 90’s a clerical error was made, and David Hollander has remained on file as Montreal’s EBUG. When Boston plays a preseason game in Montreal at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, both of their goalies are taken out and David Hollander suddenly finds himself in the net in Boston black and yellow.
