“Okay, wait, hear me out,” said Alfred. “So the cylinder is attached—”

Vander cleared his throat. “Etie, how in blazes did you end up with the Ring of the Hero King stuck on your member!?”

    “Training accident,” said Etie.

“It is as Lady Etie says,” said Marth.

    Summary

Perhaps he was being granted visions. It wasn’t uncommon for Crick to dream of people he didn’t know, but for it to be the same man thrice over felt like too much to be simple coincidence. If his dreams were, indeed, visions, then it could be that Aelfric himself was warning him of something. Or, else, guiding him.

The inquisitor with silvery-white hair and such a sad smile… something about him was important.

    He had to be.

In which a newly anointed Sanctum Knight is sent to the village of Flamechurch on his first assignment and meets the man of his (literal) dreams.

    Summary

Temenos stumbles onto the Altar of the Flamebringer with Crick in tow.

“O chosen cleric, blessed by Aelfric the Flamebringer,” Crick says earnestly, trembling in awe at what he’s just witnessed. “I… I pledge my sword, and my very life, to your command. By the light of the Sacred Flame, I swear my devotion.”

Temenos rolls his eyes. “Oh bother.”

But instead he says, “We should be on our way, Crick. The others will want to depart soon.” Before he turns to leave, as if a mere afterthought, he clasps his hands together and bows his head. “O Sacred Flame, please watch over us on our journey,” he intones flippantly, winking at Crick before he closes his eyes again. “May your light guide us safely to our destination, so we can fulfill our quests for the glory of the Gods, and so on, and so forth.”

    Summary

Yuuma always thought grief was supposed to be linear.

That’s how people always make it sound, right? Five stages of grief, and you’re supposed to go from one to the next until finally you hit acceptance, and then it’s better.

Except that Astral being gone wasn’t just something that happened and then was over. It was something that kept on happening; he kept on being gone, over and over, every hour of every day until maybe it wasn’t so okay after all.

    Summary

Kaveh has achieved so much today, it should be fine to do this much for himself. It should be fine to enjoy this much. There is absolutely nothing that Al-Haitham could possibly do to ruin this day!

Of course, this is when Al-Haitham chooses to walk in covered in blood.

Kaveh has enough troubles on his plate even without dealing with his confusing relationship with and unfortunately lingering feelings for his stubborn, infuriating roommate. But when a strange conspiracy begins closing in on Al-Haitham and threatening the precarious balance of their daily lives, Kaveh finds himself having to reevaluate the nature of their relationship and reckon with the ghosts of the past.

    -----

There’s never really a good time, way, or reason to tell Kaveh about his long-lived, amoral, exiled, criminal ex-partner — who, Al-Haitham will note, was not any of those things at the time they were involved.

However, there is definitely a worst way for Kaveh to find out.
