Xiao’s shoulders trembled, and he shook his head, the tears once again falling. He curled himself into his legs, whimpering and sobbing. He’d lost so much time, so much that he loved. Would his village be the same? Did they live? If they did, would they even forgive him for what he’d done? He didn’t want to accept it, that he was just a pawn in every way. His soul, his abilities, his body. He was nothing but a means to an end, just a more effective one than the rest.
“…Xiao.”
He barely peaked his eyes back up to the Lord. The Lord sighed once more. “Should you wish to right your wrongs, you can stand alongside me. My earth will become yours to walk upon, and you will protect the lives of mortals, not bring them harm. Your abilities are matched by no one. Tell me, will you fight by my side?”
Xiao raised his head more. His body was brittle, his head pounding. His throat was drier than sand. “…D-Do you truly wish to save me?”
Rex Lapis grinned. “I do.”
“C-Can I redeem myself?”
“You can, if you try hard enough.”
