Summary
The man’s features furrow. Confusion beating out anger, if just for a second. Jess looks at him, really looks. He looks— Jess tries not to let the wince of her headache pulsing outwards show on her face, but she thinks he looks uncannily like Sam’s brother. The one who showed up two nights ago (three? four? How long has it been?) and pulled Sam away, leaving a sinking, horrified feeling in her gut in his wake. Dean? But Dean was barely older than they were, in clothes too big for him and a cocky smile. This guy’s in his 40s, easy, in a worn out plaid shirt and no leather jacket, and he looks stern where Dean had been playful.
So this must be— Sam’s dad, then. It doesn’t make Jess feel any better, not with what little she’s heard about him, except for she thinks it means she has a way to contact Sam even if her Blackberry’s dropped in a fountain somewhere, or in Brady’s pocket at whatever bar he’s waking up slumped over. “Mr. Winchester?” she tries, and the man’s face breaks open in shock.

Summary
Jimmy glances around the room, eyes darting, and Sam feels almost nauseous watching him. Something that’s not Castiel is in Castiel’s body, Sam’s mind supplies in a panic, but another part of him corrects that thought: Castiel is the something. The body is back in its proper state.
The story of Jimmy Novak is Sam's worst nightmare, which is something he didn't fully consider until he was left alone in a room with the guy for an hour. Sam thinks it could've gone worse. It definitely could've gone better.

Summary
God made you long before he had anyone for you to hold, and that should’ve been the first warning sign. The second one should’ve been what happened to Amara. It’s a shame, you think. You liked Amara. If it had been your assignment to hold her, you don’t think you’d have complained. Emptiness is a kind of darkness, after all. You think you two would’ve gotten along.
But you weren’t destined to hold Amara. You were made to hold rebellious sons. You were made to hold corruption, the corrupted, the corruptible. When God’s youngest of his oldest sons started acting up, you knew right away. You felt it change the very makeup of your cells. Your cell. When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. When all God has are cages, every problem starts to look a lot like a prisoner.
(cagefic from the perspective of the cage. i know. just bear with me on this one. kind of a companion to crate training, but stands alone.)

Summary
It’s a Sunday morning when Sam Winchester gets a voicemail from God. He doesn’t answer the call because he’s in church, and maybe ten years ago Sam would’ve thought that was a sign. Six years ago he would’ve just thought it was cruel. Now, Sam mostly thinks it’s funny. The call is coming from inside the house.
It turns out that defeating God and helping your three-year-old take his place doesn't necessarily improve your relationship with faith. Color Sam shocked.

Summary
He's already human, he is, and this feeling in the pit of his stomach is about being a hunter, nothing more. And he doesn't have to worry about any of it, because Jess treats him like a normal person and that means he's not failing at being normal. Jess loves him. He's fine.
Jess has been looking at him strangely.
