Summary
“Why’d you come looking for me?” John deflects, recomposing himself quickly into a relaxed stance, leaning his hip into the railing as Jaren walks to join him beside it.
“Why wouldn’t I go looking for my best friend?”
John says nothing to it, turning to face the street again once Jaren is next to him. He swallows heavily, nodding ever so slightly. As if Jaren had just told him something groundbreaking, or told him some truth he didn’t understand before. Tyler’s porch lights are a fluorescent white, sickly and kind of grey and making it feel a bit like a hospital. They aren’t even that bright, and being turned away from them means John’s face is lit up by only the light of the moon.

He pulls into the breakdown lane abruptly, stepping on the brakes so hard he can almost hear the rubber on his tires struggling under the action he just executed. The abrupt loss in momentum tosses him into the steering wheel, his GPS yelling at him that he’s thirty five miles from home. He’s alone, there’s no one else on the road. He doesn’t have friends. He doesn’t have a career. He puts his face into his hands and lets out a strangled sob, and it fully opens the floodgates. He can’t stop, his eyesight blurry and unreliable and it hurts so fucking bad.

“Leaving me alone during lunch, eh?” John says sarcastically, taking a bite out of one of his fries.
He always looks so… angelic, in a way, when he sleeps. Like he didn’t just bang his head against the table comically. He’s sure when he wakes up Jaren will give him an earful about that, which means he probably didn’t get a concussion this time. His eyelashes are long against his cheek, feathering across it in a way that’s mesmerizing. Jaren really is such a beautiful man, if there’s anyone he’d give anything for, it’d definitely be him.

Summary
It’s always been a source of shame for John, how dare you have feelings towards your best friend, the one who was, now doubtfully, straight. He’s unsure what to think even more now. He wanted him, whether it was in friendship or as a partner or sexually. John wanted Jaren the same way the tides need the moon, or a car needs gas, or the stars need the night sky. Like one couldn’t exist without the other.

A familiar voice says from behind him, and he turns around. Blond, wavy hair down to the shoulders. Green, half lidded eyes. A pink tipsy flush across his cheeks and nose. Half smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Ah,” he messes around with the burger more, playing it off like he’s at least entertaining the idea of eating it. “Nothing, just finishing up in here.”

Link wakes up in a strange place. He is drowning in grief. He cannot remember who or what he is mourning, but it hurts all the same. A dark castle looms in the distance. It is drenched in evil, but a golden light breaks through the eye of the storm. Link will do whatever it takes to keep that light from going out.
This will be the final fight between the God of Power and the Man of Courage. No more reincarnations, no more second chances. Link has lived far too many lives and he is ready to end this. The Calamity is determined to break the unbreakable spirit of the Hero once and for all. The legend that is as old as time itself is finally coming to an end.
-This is a darker reimagining of Breath of the Wild. There will be some light moments but this is meant to be a lot heavier than the original game. I adjusted certain aspects for storytelling purposes. If you notice something that does not match up with the game it is intentional.

John and Smitty had an argument about something stupid and are handling it in the only way they know how: avoidance. Fortunately, Smitty decides to take some initiative and solve this little issue in a very mature and responsible way. So he traps them both in an elevator. No, really.
