“You think I’m a monster. I understand that," Mikaboshi said to Sojo. "A thousand years ago, the man who ruled your country destroyed the home of my ancestors, and would have wiped us from the earth if he could have done. It is only because of a special thing – the same thing which makes up our altar’s core – which allowed us to survive.”
“But—”
“Survive, I said, not live. We survived. We clawed out a cruel existence in the darkness, and we did what was necessary.” Mikaboshi’s gaze hardened, his strange eyes dark and determined. “We will always do what is necessary. You wouldn’t understand that, in your home under the sun.”
Or - Sojo is taken prisoner by soldiers of the Mikaboshi, and subjected to a ritual which can only end in agony and death.
